Depends on the buy order. If it's a fair price for my product I'll gladly sell. If it's an attempt to get cheap stuff in order to resell at a profit, I might as wel try to make that profit myself.

Why not combine the IPO-like system with a fixed sum? Say if the business fails, you still have to pay a certain amount to your developer, if it takes off, they get their pay from the shares. Unless ofcourse the business fails due to poor develop...
